I could not be more excited about what’s trending in interior design and fashion this fall! This season is full of rich retro vibes, what I’m calling “Grandma Chic meets Retro Italian,” and I’m loving it!
What does that mean? Think all those colors from your Grandmother’s home in the 70’s and 80’s – dusty pinks, rich wood tones (yes, like wood wall paneling) and accent hues such as camel, deep burgundy and aubergine. Take all those colors that use to make us want to barf and then mix them with geometric shapes, mixed metals and bold sculptural shapes and you’ve got a hip Italian Grandma from the 70’s!
I can’t get enough of this season’s trends and here are some great ways to use them in a modern Thanksgiving party:
1. Throw Pillows.
Throw pillows are a quick and easy way to freshen up your place for a party. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and colours together to really personalize it to you and the event. CB2 and West Elm have a killer selection of pillows right now in all the current colours and textures.
2. Plateware and Dishware
To be modern right now you have to go retro. I found a great two toned table setting at Crate and Barrel with a hand-made feel of 1970’s pottery. CB2 has a mod styled geometric layered plate set right now. It can be kept together as a table setting or broken apart to be used as serving trays.
3. Center Pieces
We are not married to using traditional holiday colours when it comes to setting a table. JEvents Planning and Design did a gorgeous arrangement for us using hits of dusty rose and aubergine. Paring these colours with warmer tones still gives the warmth of a harvest table.
Need a last minute idea? Seasonal fruits, like pomegranates or pears, in a rich wooden bowl can finish off a table with little effort.
I love the idea of a retro punch bowl full of fresh cut fruit and sweet liquors. For my Thanksgiving party I made a pomegranate sangria full of pomegranate seeds, slices of apples and some smooth red wine from Unreserved Wine. Full recipe can be found here.
This year I am incredibly thankful for all the amazing people in my life – including my personal life like my fiance and family, as well as my professional life and all the amazing, talented people on my team.
What are you thankful for? I’d love to hear your thoughts so please comment below or message me on social media!
As always, thanks for stopping by!
